Caribou native Jessica Meir was first inspired by the night sky to pursue her goal of becoming an astronaut. She was chosen after her studies by NASA and completed the first three all-women spacewalks with fellow astronaut Christina Koch. Being an inspiration for girls who seek a similar goal, she will be inducted into Maine’s Women Hall of Fame on March 19 in tribute to women’s history month. She has said that her accomplishments honor generations of women that have come before her to push boundaries and glass ceilings. Her remarkable accomplishments will hopefully prove an inspiration for future generations until one day the occurrence of female spacewalks is as common as that of males.
